Early 2011 jazz...

One of the first assignments of the new semester- billboard ad! We had to choose a local company from the KC area to advertise, of the which I chose Boulevard Brewing Co. Since I was assigned this around the time of the company's 21st anniversary, I thought the best solution to this assignment was to make it as if the company itself were advertising their 21 years in business. Good strategy for the ol' portfolio if you ask me. I took the liberty of throwing the billboard image into a real-life setting to give you an idea of how it would look:

Another project I worked on was to design a quote poster (creating a way to incorporate the quote into a design). This project at first popped serious quotes and proverbs into my; I was a little tired of sticking to serious. I decided to go the comical route this time by taking a classical dialogue and putting it into more of a modern setting. The quote (however lengthy it is) is of course a famous dialogue from The Lord of the Rings- you know the one- between Gandalf and Frodo in the Mines of Moria. I loved the idea of taking something that everyone knows so well and putting it into a completely different realm of familiarity. This to me is both funny and witty. Sort of a humorous way to think outside the box, if you will. Not to mention I think it's a successful solution- people eat this kind of stuff up! The final project resulted in... well, see for yourself:
